  • Lizard Survey through spotlighting
  • Kiwi Monitoring

  • eDNA
  • Presentation at a Staff Engagement day

Imerys Performance Minerals Asia Pacific (Imerys) are an international supplier of specialty minerals for industry and operate a mine and processing plant in the Far North to extract halloysite, a very white kaolinite clay. Due to its high whiteness and properties, it is particularly sought after by ceramic tableware producers.

Imerys are interested in understanding and acknowledging the environment around them, and the flora and fauna they share the site with and NZ Environmental Management undertook a baseline ecological survey which included:

  • Vegetation and habitat survey
  • Five-minute bird counts
  • Lizard Survey through Spotlighting
  • Kiwi Monitoring
  • Water Quality monitoring
  • eDNA

In addition to the baseline monitoring, Joana was invited to make a presentation to the staff at Imerys during their Staff Engagement Day. This was an opportunity to educate staff about the species present on their site and indeed in the area they live.
